Re: [Avid-L2] AVI file in MXF for HD Closed Captioning?

I agree. That's nonsensical. It is like asking for a Quicktime MXF - both
are just wrappers that can hold various content in a wide range of
varieties.

Maybe it was a typo? Perhaps they meant Avid MXF?

closed captioning. We've been told if we deliver a drive with a file it
will be $1,000 cheaper. I assume the need for a second deck is where the
cost savings is. I still don't trust files to be replicated with accurate
levels but I'm trying to be open minded. The request was for an avi mxf
file. I know AVI is just a wrapper but I'm curious why they don't want Avid
DNX or proress. I haven't talked to the dub house directly yet but I'm
curious if anyone knows what hardware would like avi mxf? Sounds a lot like
Velocity or something. We still have to deliver tape to the network so
this file would just be an intermediate to get the closed captioning on.
Final delivery is on HDCam 4 channel audio so I'd have to create a file with
4 channels of audio too. Not impossible but not something done easily out
of Avid. IIRC there was a way to export a reference

Will an AVI file hold more than two audio channels? More googling in my
future. For me this really seems like a waste when we can output to tape in
real time but I'm willing to try.
