Here are the Avid specs from the link provided in this thread. I'm not sure I follow pin 4 and 6. What is Transmit common and Receive common. I thought transmit A&B and Receive A&B are balanced pairs I don't see what they would have a common for. That's not part of the RS-422 deck control I've wired up. It's always pins 1-3 and 7-9 that I use. I tried getting two mac mcsoft 3.x systems to work today trying the RS-422 patch bay cable cross over patch that FF mentioned but I could not get it to work. I tried controlling the avid in remote play with all the setting and port assignment to port 1 of the keyspan adapter using another avid and a DVW=500 but couldn't get it to talk. I did get it to the point of the yellow box around the Play button. If I wire up the Avid PC version to go from the keyspans male 9 pin out of the avid to the RS-422 patch bay should that work? If I set up one avid in remote play mode emulating a BVW-70 and hook up the avid spec'd vtr emulation cable should I be able to control it from another avid? I would think so. Would the avid auto config to another avid system set up in remote play mode with the proper vtr emulation cable?

Heck they use to wire up remote TBC controls for the BVU-800 TBC with some pots and a rack panel saving the need to buy the sony remote box. It's not always about the money Jeff sometimes it's about figuring it out.

So you're saying that works? If so I'm hard pressed to see how the ABC folks couldn't make a cable to do the same. I know first hand many of those guys are top notch techs. All it would take is an ohm meter to verify the pins on the Avid cable. Greg I'll solder one up early next week and if it works you owe me an OKI dog. Of course I'm not sure what the protools control element might do. Do you have a 422 patch at Secret HQ that would allow for this patch bay trick?

If you want to donate to Red Cross quake relief, you can do so through your cell phone. Text redcross to 90999 to make a $10 donation. It will be on your next cell bill.
