That's odd, because it's been that way for decades AFAIK. If you fit into certain categories and make over a certain amount, the Fed Govt exempts employers from placing you into an overtime category. I have worked in various prod and post jobs for 40 years (mgmt and non-mgmt) and haven't qualified for OT pay past the first few years in the business. For example, at places I've worked, the tape operators and secretaries earned OT, but editors, designers, colorists, audio engineers, etc. were on salary. It's possible different state laws add on top of the Federal law to kick in OT in some state where the Federal law doesn't actually require it.
