[Avid-L2] Re: Ideal External Monitor for Matrox Mini

I've used the Matrox MX02 Mini with a JVC DTV24L for about 9 months now. For me it all works flawlessly. No noticable delay in HD, pin sharp picture, 1:1 pixel mapping (although in 1920x1080 pixel mapping is on by default anyway)
The Matrox seems to handle most formats with no hassle and is basically fit and forget. I went into the settings once 9 months ago to set up the colour balance and the Analogue outputs and haven't been near them since.
OK so it doesn't have SDI - but for the price and in a file based workflow it is perfect and it can hang off your laptop!

The JVC monitor has Blue only which is useful when setting up the Mini as Matrox provides a thorough instruction manual for setting up colour balance and levels for your monitor which involve using Blue only mode. These tweaks only work on HDMI out - but seeing as that is what you are monitoring on - that's what you want.
There is a delay of a frame or so when scaling up SD footage (but not a big deal).
The JVC also has Area and Safe markers various input modes for Progressive and Field playback and the newer versions have a built in Waveform Monitor as well as audio monitoring - what more do you want in a Semi top end Monitor.
