RE: [Avid-L2] Re: Sony F3 s-log lut

DS's implementation is very simple. A LUT effect is just another effect. It can be applied source-side (like any other effect, or in combination with any other effect) or it can be clip based, or it can be track based for a user-specified duration. So you can use it in any of the ways so far proposed in this thread. Obviously it can be bypassed at will wherever it's used.

As regards grading, of course a LUT doesn't replace a grade, but a well-designed LUT will (should) initiate the clip in the right ballpark for you to commence grading. If you don't like the 'initial state' then you can either edit the LUT (it's only a text file) or you can put it into a tree with a CC to give you a 'better' starting point. Then you grade on top.

In the particular project that I need it for right now I'm doing a lot of keying with Primatte and the DP has shot some tests with and without s-log. The s-log footage is giving me superior results all round. Recording to a ki-pro the shots are also offering a lot of latitude - I'm quite impressed.
