[Avid-L2] Solved: Audio Import Error

Hey gang,

I solved this problem, but wanted to share, just in case someone else hits this issue.

I'm Mac 10.6.4, and MC 5.5.

I was trying to import some music I used on an Avid job 10 years ago.
-- the tracks were burned to 12 CDs for archiving -- and I swore I'd used some of the tracks at least once in the last 10 years on another Avid job.

First, I copied the tracks to my external hard drive and was attempting to import from there.

When I tried importing (either drag & drop or through the import dialog box) I got the error message:
"! Exception: Cannot open file."

The tracks played in QT and Sorenson Squeeze.
I made sure that all permissions were granted to the files.
I tried adding the extensions ".aif" and .aiff" (Other .aiff files import fine, with or without the extension)

Some more experimenting revealed that if I renamed the files to a short name, they would import.
So, I thought it was a character number issue. Nope. It was that there were forward slashes in the file names.

I used a free program called Renamer4mac (http://wfco.de/macosx/Renamer4Mac) to relatively quickly remove the forward slashes (which it saw as colons) and replace them with underscores on the many songs contained on the 12 CDs.

One disk's tracks have been successfully imported now . . . the rest are for tomorrow!

Cheers,

B
