Following up on "stylizing" the video to network taste. I remade my tests with split screens from camera original to color corrected and a few treatments including desaturated and more contrasty. I get a response questioning why one side of the split screen says "Not Desaturated." I confirm the file says "Pilot Desaturated." Turns out the producer is trying to judge these treatments looking on their, you guessed it, iPhone. I made my treatments on the heavy side to make sure the changes wouldn't be too subtle to notice because who knows what kind of computer screen they'll be viewing on, but seriously trying to judge the look on an iPhone! This is for a cable show not the iPhone. Is it just me or is this just a bit ridiculous?

Thanks to the insightful suggestion from the executive brass I can safely say they saved the show. Here's a cinematic example of what we've done from the film Modern Romance. A classic depiction of this process.:

The pilot is too pretty and the image too high quality. And the arm waving bonehead suggestion from the executive peanut gallery at the network, "Can you make it look more gritty?" Well F me skipping. I'll F up the image any way you like so it matches all the other crap on your network. I do understand how a "Gritty" look, whatever that means can be used effectively in certain types of programs but this ain't one of them. This is straight forward magazine television not "Tales From The Darkside."
