I differ:
Well, this is starting up a different discussion, but as far as I
know, 16x9 NTSC is actually anamorphic SD. That is, it's 'squished'
so that everything is tall and thin when viewed in 4x3. This is not
4x3 letterboxed. It CAN become letterboxed; that's one choice. But
it can also become 4x3 (non-anamorphic).
