Sometimes, when you navigate through the monitor setup options (on the
monitor itself), you can see the "optimal" resolution for that monitor
listed.

I find that some video cards will not output the optimal resolution -
especially with a newer monitor connected to an older system, like your
xw8000. If memory serves, you're working with a QuadroFX 980 or 1100, yes?
