Wow, if that was written by Avid it makes them look like idiots. What the Alexa camera is doing it recording in LogC. Much like the Panavision Genesis will let you record in PanaLog and some of the Sony cams will let you record in SLog. It's basically an algorithm that is trying to simulate the latitude that film negative has to allow for greater degree of grading in the post-production process. It's pretty standard and has been for years. You can correct in the Avid by running the video through a LUT box as you digitize from tape or applying a color effect to you timeline if you are importing quicktimes. Or you run the output of your DX through a LUT box that feeds a monitor. It would be nice if Avid allowed for a LUT to be applied to QTs as they were imported, but reading that link it sounds like they think it's some sort of bug or error on the acquisition side and has nothing to do with them. That doesn't give me high hopes that Avid will ever create a comfortable workflow for Log source material.
