[Avid-L2] Re: Putting a 16TB XT Chassis on a 4.2.4 Unity Server with existing LP storage

No, it's called ISIS- all the best features of Unity, but ethernet infrastructure and the security of how Avid handles data and metadata.

The Unity issue of not being able to scale storage up is NOT a function of drive size- it's a function of the amount of memory available in the Unity Engine to manage metadata. Unity does not have a "real" directory structure, it's a VIRTUAL one.. which lives in RAM. That is where the bottleneck is, not enough horsepower to handle larger array sizes and drives, as they would mean a lot more files and folder to keep track off.

ISIS handles this by being a series of micro-servers, which handle parts of metadata just as they handle parts of data. Pairs of drives together, with a computer on top of each pair.

And if you have Unity, you can work out a trade-in deal most likely.

I realize it's disappointing to consider that you are going to possibly be making less and less money, but good lord, everyone else is struggling with the same issue.
