RE: [Avid-L2] What will Avid do?

They could start by getting their website in order for all the new traffic that may be heading their way. The first thing i see in the store is a mojo component video cable? It should be Media Composer surely! Even the hosts of the supermeet tonight were taking the piss out of FCPX - now is the time to make MC easy to find and purchase!

So FCP X is useless for TV and Film editing (and weddings too apparently,

lack of multicam is a killer there) - what's Avid going to do?

They had their crossgrade offer going but that expired last week (or did

it?)

FCP users are starting to look at their future coices - and the option is

pretty much Premiere Pro or Media Composer. I think Avid needs to take

action to try and make Media Composer more attractive to those who are

looking to the future...

The concerns of FCP editor seem to mostly be about project continuity (can

they access their archived FCP projects) and hardware support (can they use

their Kona and Decklink cards) - presently the answer on both counts is Yes

for Premiere Pro and No for Media Composer. I'd like to believe that Media

Composer 6 will change those things, but if it is going to then Avid needs

to let us know that now - even if it won't be shipping for a while, so

people can have some idea what to expect.

Last year I listed some of what I hoped to see in MC6 -

http://dylanreeve.com/videotv/avid/2010/great-expectations.html - Some of

them are even more important now.

I know Avid has rules and regulations that restrict what it can say about

future products, but there must be some way? Microsoft teases details of

products are are a year or more away.
