RE: [Avid-L2] VNC monitoring solutions (nothing to do with FCPX!)

I don't know the exact specs, but I have talked to some folks at Avid about
running VNC on their servers and it seems to be okay, at least for
occasional use. It didn't sound like it was an unusual thing. I have used
TightVNC to look at a server from an Avid client with no ill effects.

Subject: [Avid-L2] VNC monitoring solutions (nothing to do with FCPX!)

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help shed some light on this or point me in the right
direction so i can do some research of my own. I'd like to be able to view
the desktops of all the Avids from one location in tech. As far as i
understand I need to have a VNC server on the machine I want to look at and
a VNC client on the computer i want to use as a viewer. We're all PC, no
macs. The only ethernet connection to the Avids is the ISIS. No internet.
Can anyone help explain how i would go about setting up this kind of thing?
Would the bandwidth from the VNC server disrupt the ISIS in any way? I've
had this before at other places I've worked using KVM patch bays, but i
never thought to ask how it worked. I'm just trying to figure if it's
possible as at the end of the day it wouldn't be me implementing it but I
got asked to look into it. I'm guessing it's a complicated thing what with
the ISIS being involved?

Any help would be appreciated,

Cheers,

Andi
