I use MPEG Streamclip on a pretty regular basis to convert most files to our inhouse standard (DV25/DNxHD MXF). Streamclip seems to support almost every mpeg format that exists and it is rare when I find a codec/format that it doesn't recognize.

how do you figure it's not ffmpeg? At the bottom of the page it clearly says

This software uses code of FFmpeg licensed under the LGPLv2.1 and its source can be downloaded here.
