The footage was shot 1920 x 1080 60i 100mbs. The codec is the Xdcam HD codec I believe. Avid project is 1920 x 1080 59.94 project DnxHD 145 they were not planning on going any higher in res. I was thinking to try and import them Uncompressed and then transcode (downconvert) to the DnxHD 145 from there. Maybe that would not effect the sharpness though I'm not sure if importing at uncompressed will resolve the sharpness issue or not.

Are they converting to interlaced or SD? I just tried to do that and got the same results from some 5D footage I converted in the Avid.
I reimported in a 1920x1080 24p project and the softness when away...well, most of it, it still doesn't look as sharp as the same footage on the same computer screen viewed in QTPlayer.

If you want to donate to Red Cross quake relief, you can do so through your cell phone. Text redcross to 90999 to make a $10 donation. It will be on your next cell bill.
