[Avid-L2] AMA Logger explained

Hi There

Has anyone seen any documentation about how this works, real explanations of
how the avid finds media and refinds it etc. We are using it a lot on big
projects, maybe 100 hours of material per project and it's becoming a bit of
a nightmare, and I'm not sure we fundamentally know how it works and I can't
find any documentation about this.

Things like were the source file came from and what happens if you mix PC
and MAC because PC's have drive letters and MAC's don't.

What does the logger do and how do we interpret it? Why do we need it and
does it affect performance at all having many of them?

I thought the logger had details of where clips were but I think that's not
true.

How do you stop endless scanning of drives without stopping AMA completely.

Why are links lost and how to recover them, bearing in mind relink doesn't
really do it! To relink we have to re AMA and then delete the new clips and
then the Avid links to the originals. Except not in 5.5!

We need proper grown up documentation!

Thanks

Nige
