Just ask some of the long time Softimage folks what it was like when Microsoft was the owner ($$$$$ stock) and then Avid stepped in ($ stock). It was not a happy time in Montreal...

a "non-aggression pact" (my interpretation) with Microsoft and thus
eliminated a huge potential competitor. Note this Microsoft press
release isn't titled "Microsoft to sell SoftImage" but "Microsoft to
