A totally uneducated guess, from vague memories.

LTO supports WORM

(write once, read MANY times)

So it should be good at least a few hundred passes, or we are in for a

major

language revision.

If not, i'm screwed. (I just ordered one....)

Hi everyone,

does anyone know roughly how many times an LTO 5 tape can be used to

restore

from. I got told that they can only be used 5 or 6 times before they

become

a bit knackred. The wiki page is a bit confusing with regards to

durability. So for example we archive a clients media to an LTO 5 tape

and

store it, then they want to look at something, then we need the media

for a

compilation show etc. how many times can we keep loading this media back

and forth like that? We are looking into LTO 5 for archiving and for

most

cases we'll be doing just that, archiving, but we do have some clients

who

come back year after year wanting to look at old media. I hadn't heard

of

this being a problem before but maybe someone here can enlighten me?

Cheers,

Andi
