[Avid-L2] AAF import bug - any workarounds?

Hello all,
I've come across a bug with MC 5.0.3.9 (but that seems to have been around for a while) that is completely reproducible.
Steps: Open a sub-clip, change one or more of the track labels by switching to the source side, clicking right on the track and 'Rename Track'.
Export the sub-clip as an AAF (link to media). Reimport the exported AAF and select Replace.

The sub-clip has lost the track names, they have been imported - but erroneously: as clip-names and not track-labels for the tracks in question. The track-labels stay at their defaults (A1, A2 etc).

As a result, there is no way to get track names into Avid via AAF for sources and subclips. It works fine for sequences.

(they are being correctly exported, I've analysed the aaf converted to xml with aaffmtconv from the AAF SDK, it's just the import doesn't work)

I'm on a project with a large number of synced sounds from many sources, and the ability to set track names eliminates much confusion. However I need to be able to set them automatically, theoretically possible with AAF, but unfortunately this doesn't work.
Any ideas of a work around? (my aim: I need to get the track labels from BWF track comments as track labels in the synced clips without doing it clip by clip and track by track)
