Re: [Avid-L2] Different versions of MC using same Unity?

There are difficulties, but we (actually they, today was my last day at that
company) use a variety of MC versions. 3, 4 and 5 - all connected to the
same Lanshare 4.2.4 - The majority of the offline suites are 3.1.3, the
Symphony is 5 and there's an MC4 in thre somewhere just for fun.

No obvious problems, even going back and forth between versions in a single
project. It's only the more advanced features of the 5.0 series that change
the sequences enough to cause issues. But they can be demoted again. I
managed to open a Media Composer 5.0 sequence in a MC 2.7 (I think) suite.
Avid's backward and forward compatibility has always impressed me. I've
onlined Xpress Pro and MC Adrenaline projects in a Meridian system in the
past.

One problem I have had a few times in the past when mixing versions is user
preferences. It pays to recreate user settings from scratch for each major
version. I've see some very weird things when user settings from different
versions are used. Also we had one project, created in MC4 that used to
freak out MC5, but creating a new project and copying all the bins solved
that.
