[Avid-L2] Re: Sony F3 q

So if your in a 23.98 SD project can you open ama bin that is 59.94 HD with Pull Down? Sounds like that's what is being done hence the motion adapters are put on. Does this mean ama doesn't require you to be in a compatible project type when ama'ing the clips? If I'm understanding correctly to "import" instead of ama these clips would need to be imported into an HD 1080 59.94 project and then the bin would be opened in the 23.98 project. It all is making sense but it sounds a little dangerous to be using ama for something that is going to be reconformed much later and not a quick turn around project. Also if you go the ama route will you be required to import the entire clips when it's time to online or just the sections used? I'm pretty sure you can import only the sections used with XDCam but I'm not sure the same is true for other file formats.

Even in an SD project this should work. Don't have that exact configuration of footage to test just now, but sounds like you do.

If they AMA the footage in to MC v5.5, they can put it in a 1080p 23.98sf timeline and it plays fine with PD removed. If they AMA into a 23.98 SD project, the footage plays back with blended frames. Exporting a new QT from the 1080p 23.98 timeline (29.97 footage placed in timeline and playing back fine), the resulting QT has blended frames while viewing in QT player. As a test, I put the footage into a 1080p 23.98sf FCP timeline and exported a ProRes QT from that. That file is fine and plays back without blended frames. This project will eventually be conformed and would need to somehow link back to the original HD file. Trying to see if there is a way to do this without converting all the original files with PD.
