You are right; it is only available if you are attached to Interplay.

sounds interesting, although i wasn't aware that regular Avids let you
use framechase as an option when digitising? Where is that option?

I am always a little careful to make anything sound TOO easy but
in
essence; yes.
You need to go to mxf4mac, create an account and download the demo
installer. You will need MXFimport for what you describe.
Install it. Go to System Preferences and create a challenge code. Send
the challenge code to their support and you will get a response code to
license the demo back.
See if it works for you. It essentially means that FCP will eat MXF. It
works for Avid OP Atom, P2 OP Atom and Sony OP1a. It likely does for
Canon as well, but I have not tested that. If you need access to AVC
Intra media from Panasonic you will need the additional AVC component.
If you want to make MXF files from FCP to play in Avid then you need the
MXFexport component licensed as well.
If you are feeling a little bit kerazy you can set Avid ingesting in
frame chase mode and see if FCP update will update while the media is
still being ingested on Avid...
I have never tried that (and won't be soon)

Rupert, can you explain this a bit for the uninitiated. Are you saying
we could capture in Avids and use the MXF media to work in Final cut pro
without having to convert anything. Do you just point the capture
scratch at the ISIS workspace or something? That would be good for
media management.

If you get Calibrated or MXF4Mac you can treat MXF files like
QuickTime
movies. Put your FCP on you shared storage and happy days...

I'd agree with phillip, as a consumer delivery spec, sure, it may be
around for quite a while. As a professional methodology, not so much.
