I just sparked up FCP and imported my whole Avid Mediafiles folder into
my FCP bin. Works like a champ. It choked on the msmFMID and msmMMOB
files ;-) but the media plays fine.

Rupert can correct me if I have it wrong, but both of these apps only
work with codecs that FCP normally understands, like XDCAM, AVC-I or
DVCPROHD. MXF media from P2 or XDCAM is normally rewrapped into .mov
files as part of FCP's Log & Transfer routine. The two apps create QT
references linked to the MXF files so the media files appear to FCP as
"normal" QT media files.
I'm not sure if FCP can dig into an Avid MediaFiles folder this way. I
doubt it.
If you have a folder or virtual drive of P2 or XDCAM content, then
theoretically, Media Composer could mount these via AMA and FCP could
likewise access the files via MXF4Mac or Calibrated.
