Hey Tim,
Thanks for the update...glad to hear you're okay. The footage on the news is absolutely mind-blowing and so incredibly sad...my heart goes out to all the Japanese people who have been affected by this horrible disaster.
I've lived in Los Angeles for years (was here for the Northridge quake)...there are always the concerns with the "Big One" (San Andreas)...I sure don't wanna be here for that event. Maybe it's time to move to Arizona!!!
Anyway, hang in there. All the best.

Hey, thanks for the call-out.
By far the biggest quake I've ever experienced in my 30 years in
Tokyo... of course nothing compared to what they are going
through farther north! Some 70 folk have lost their lives in
Tokyo due to the quake, a couple of buildings down and a couple
of fires. Tragic for those families, but not widespread disaster.
Our offices are on the 6th & 7th floors of a 9 story building.
Our racks didn't tip over, so most of the gear is okay, but the
edit rooms are a mess -- all the computer monitors, video
monitors (including some very nice Ikegami units I just bought!),
mixers, etc., on the floor. Can't even get into our main studio
as so much stuff has fallen in the hall leading to it. Office
looks like a tornado hit it, paper everywhere. Plaster, fixtures,
etc., down all over. After all the initial powering down, picking
up the expensive stuff, etc., everyone looked at each other and
said, "Let's just go home. We'll have to dig in Monday." The
building really rocked and rolled -- don't know yet how safe it
is. Delivering to the stations on time this coming week is going
to be a huge challenge!
Of course, no trains running at all for Tokyo's millions of
commuters. Most seemed to walk home. It was like the march of the
zombies in business suits, all headed out of town. My brother in
law walked 5 hours to get home.
I drive the location van, and so we loaded staff up and started
ferrying people home. Got back home myself about 4 a.m. just in
time for the second big earthquake that hit up in the mountains
west of us.
My own house is a mess! But no real damage. Have been spending
Saturday picking up and putting away... still a long way to go!
If you are of the "praying persuasion" this is your cue to pray
for the folk closer to the epicenter and tidal waves. Most
communication is still out, families aren't back together yet,
hundreds or thousands of homes have been washed away with serious
loss of life.

If you want to donate to Red Cross quake relief, you can do so through your cell phone. Text redcross to 90999 to make a $10 donation. It will be on your next cell bill.
