I have in the past copied QuickTime codecs from FCP machines to not FCP
machines for this kind of thing. In my case, it was the JVC codec. But I
would imagine it would work for Pro Res.

I think that without FCP installed on you machine, you can only decode
ProRes, you cannot encode.
