You know, I haven't really given that much thought, but probably matching back to the master would be best in this case. I can't recall the last time I tried this in MC, so I'm not sure what it does, but even if I landed on the sub, just match framing again will get me the master anyway. FCP does this now too, though in a slightly different way.
In any case, if I'm matching framing to media I've trimmed in to the original sub, chances are I want back to the master clip anyway.
