Hey Jeff, are you using a Wacom tablet with your HMX2050s? I tried and
the response was too laggy. Not terrible by millisecond standards but
enough milliseconds to be rejected by the users and I had to agree, as
an editor I wouldn't like it either. I got the latest firmware from
Avocent (even tried some beta stuff). Avocent claims others are working
with it but I find that hard to imagine. Are you?
I also gave up on Gefen- we had a few of the CAT5-5500 and monitors
would often not come up or go out for no apparent reason and we even had
one unit repaired at least twice and I hate running six cables with I
can use one with Avocent. But I'd like to use the tablet. To get by we
are running a separate USB over cat5 extender that seems to do the
trick.

I gave up on the Gefen extenders. They required too much rebooting.
We have switched over to Avocent extender boxes. They are not cheap, and
they are a bit of a pain to setup the first time. However, they are rock
solid as far as doing their job. They just work. HMX 2050 and HMIQDHDD.
Here is one criticism of them though - if you have different editors who
all want to swap USB input devices on them - they become a pain.
They support a generic keyboard and mouse fine - but if you have a
Kensington trackball user, and a wacom pen user (and maybe a different
model of wacom...) you have to go in to it with a terminal program (over
a serial port) and manually add the item to the extender box.
Having said this - we only use 1 model of wacom, and if it's not
connected it doesn't care. But when I have to swap it out for a
trackball, I need to re-program the extender.
But, like I said - get past this original setup, and they are great.
They just keep working like you'd expect them to. :) Two monitors at
1920 X 1200, audio and USB over one ethernet cable.
I have no problems with the display port to DVI converter in this setup.
