Speaking only for myself, the Mojo DX does everything I need it to do and is
quite transportable.
One obvious area where it falls short, specifically Analog I/O -- can be
inexpensively 'filled-in' with either BMD or AJA Mini Converters -- which
handle all manner of 'SDI to Analog' -- and 'Analog to SDI' conversions.
Depending on the manufacturer, you can purchase both of those Digital/Analog
I/O boxes for somewhere around 1,000.
There was a rumor a while back about a possible firmware upgrade path that
utilized the two SDI ports on the Nitris DX (which Mojo DX does not have) --
but I haven't heard anything further about that. And Mojo DX does not have
LTC -- amongst other things.
Of course, a larger operation might prefer everything in one box versus
using outboard gear. But I can't say I regret buying the Mojo DX -- except,
of course, for its exorbitant price relative to what it actually does.
However, were I in your shoes and had the luxury of time, I'd make this
decision after NAB.
We're probably going to wait until Avid's announcements. I'm not sure how
much people are anticipating hardware changes as much as software but who
knows.
Based on what you've described, I think the Mojo's would probably fit our
needs pretty well. We're basically overhauling the workflow for two rooms
with consistent work coming off HDCam.
We're also considering Avid for finishing to streamline and were originally
thinking of going just Nitris with it but the universal mastering on
Symphony might come in handy. It's quite a jump from Nitris to Symphony
cost-wise and I'm not sure we can justify that jump based on that feature
alone. There is also color correct benefits but this workflow doesn't
necessarily depend on that.
