I've found that the Soundflower plugin used by audio or screen capture
software can cause MC to hang while initializing audio. This happens
intermittently with different versions of MC.

Updated a Mac MC from 5.0.3.4 to 5.0.3.7r Friday and had this issue.

Removing /System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.kext solved the problem.
