This choice is meaningless as the Hi8 format had neither LTC nor VITC.
Instead, timecode was a digital subcode recorded by the video heads,
which a Sony deck would interpret and present to the RS-422 port. But
this subcode didn't conform to any SMPTE timecode standard, and there
was no audio (LTC) or video (VITC) signal interpretable by any device
other than the Sony deck.
