I agree H264s have only limited uses due to the gamma issues.
I notice that some apps are now offering a gamma user slider to do on the
fly by eye gamma correction to help the problem (but a far from ideal
solution)
Content Agent I think has such a user control.
H264 is great for content that you may need to re-size as it handles scaling
really well. But for a blu-ray that isn't any value.
I've lost count of the client who ask for an H264 encoded file and when I
show them an MPEG2 along side the H264 they always prefer the MPEG2
H264 seems to handle noise in a strange way.
So for client previews WMV work great. Blu-rays and DVD's we try and avoid
QT using blackmagic codecs.
QT is just a complete mess and going down hill it seems.
