So generally, if I have DVCPro, HDCam or other 8 bit sources, I'll load them as 8 bit so as not to waste space with 2 unused bits, regardless of whether I'm working in a 10 bit sequence (this goes for DS as well). For DVCpro 720p footage that we are conforming in a 1080 project, we usually upconvert through a Teranex mini as that looks much better than the DVCPro deck upconvert to 1080. I believe the Teranex outputs 10bit video even if you input 8 bit sources. If that is the case, am I then losing 2 bits of info if I capture the Teranex output at 8 bit since the source footage is 8 bit or should the 10 bit Teranex output be captured at 10 bit to prevent losing some info? Just pondering.
thanks,
KEN
