Since my posting someone else has mentioned a totally different workflow - much more time-intensive and I wonder if folks think there will be a visible difference in quality:
Capture to 25P project, export an HD QT (video only - audio exported as WAV file), import video to a 23.97 project using "ignoreQTrate true" to slow the video form 25 to 24. Then open bins in the 30i project.
The conversion from 24 to 30 supposedly will produce a cleaner pulldown. But is it worth the effort? My footage is mostly MOS so the audio synching issue isn't a factor though for other instances it adds another big audio synching step.
