Re: [Avid-L2] XDCAM proxy with hi-res audio in MC5

The Feature thats works with XDCam Proxy video with the 48K audio, is only available in AMA. If you do a XDCam import Using File>Import, it works the same way as before, only allowing you to import the crappy 8k audio.

You have to turn on AMA, and you'll see a new tab, Quality. Here you can select either the Proxy or the HD Media for AMA Linking and Consolidating. You can also right click on the AMA Clips in a bin, and use the "Modify AMA Resolutions..."

The problem that I've run into with this, once you consolidate the Proxy Video, along with the 48K audio over to local storage, it's a lot more complicated to relink back to the HD Files then it was using the old import method - Doing a Batch Import, and Import tool would ask you to mount each disc that was used in the sequence. This was fairly straight forward.

With the new AMA Method, you have to go back to the original AMA bin that was created when the disc was mounted, modify the resolution to the highest file, then relink the sequence to the HD Files. Showing reference clips in the Sequence bin makes it fairly easy to find the discs that you need to do this with, but you still have to manually relink and then consolidate and or transcode the HD media to your local storage. And you have to repeat this for each disc. Not quite as straight forward. And I've run into some other issues the couple of times that I've tried doing this.

So far the most straight forward workflow I've found for this, is to have a Deck, like the PDW-F70, and to do a batch capture to do the upres. Of course, this means you'll have to modify each disc to give it a Tape name, which you should do before you do the consolidate the AMA media to local storage. And have a Deck that's can playback XDCam discs, which cost a hell of a lot more the a PDW-U1.
