Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Jobs, Budgets & Time (OT)

I would agree with that. I do A LOT of this low budget crank it out
stuff. I generally start at an hour per finished minute for editing,
and that's the absolute bargain basement basement. If there's any
music, graphics, broll, client who likes to have "input" or anything at
all beyond very basic stuff, I go to 2 hours per minute. Anything
graphic intensive, multiple formats, DVD authoring, etc, goes more.
That puts your show back up in the 2-4 day range. Just did a very basic
subcontract for a local TV station. 3 camera interview. Was told "as
live" but of course it wasn't and we had to piece things together. 60
minute program, DVCam took a week to input, edit, and dump out to DVCam.
Only basic color correction and audio mixing, a little Broll, and only
name graphics coming back from each break. Burned 1 DVD proof copy for
the client, who made minor (and reasonable) changes.

Remember - even with P2, although you don't have "digitize" time, you
pay the piper on the back end when you have to render/transcode/export
everything before output, 'cause you can't do a QT Reference file. Pay
me now, or pay me later.
