And it's true, Avid's media rigidity has been both it's source of stability and it's market drawback. As tired as I am of waiting for QT movies to import, I'm with you in hoping that AMA doesn't result in FCP type instability.

That's probably because the files were either 44.1 or MP3. Neither is good in
FCP. Always render to 48kHz AIFF before importing into FCP. Or get Digital
Heaven's Loader to do this automatically on import.

Because it's done a sample rate conversion in the render, which has changed
duration.

I think a lot of good FCP editors have simply developed working routines that
avoid many of these issues and occasionally just have to roll their eyes when
they get bitten in spite of their best effects.
But hey - the next version "will be awesome"!
