And do you have 250 hours of footage to cut for your little museum piece?
FCP can work fine, though I think it's basic editorial model will allows annoy me. The degree of instability this editor was experiencing sounds like evidence of some deep media/system sickness which is utterly beyond my ability to even speculate on. This sort of illness may be more common to FCP setups, since FinalCut provides you with so many options for shooting yourself in the foot, but it's probably also true that many long form projects have managed to avoid these issues. I think the bigger the project, the more chances there are to get into trouble.
As to the design flaws he calls out, the render idiocy, the pain of sourcing from sequences, the inadequate trim tools, the contemptible copy/paste editing model, I couldn't agree more.

truth be told, I am currently doing a 30 minute, pro-bono piece for a local
museum on FCP, but, like the author pointed out (while he was having a little
cheese with his whine), I am cutting, coloring, mixing and finishing all inside
of FCP, and it works just fine....
