I say:

If you just want to monitor 5.1/7.1 from an HDMI source, the Motu HDX-
Express HDMI seems like a better choice:

Still, this device is much more expensive than many home receivers,
two of which I listed previously. The Motu HDX-SDI that you suggested
retails for almost $900.
