I have used this method of shot replacement on many EFX heavy documentaries. They are usually rough cut with stock footage work tapes and then the master footage is purchased to replace the work footage. Even when it has to be eye matched it usually only takes a few of hours to accomplish this for an hour long show. You have the advantage of the matching footage imported via EDL.
