Since you probably shoot multiple cards a day, and all the filenames are the
same, i guess the shooting date is the best to use for Reelname.
BUT, things will go wrong with mulitple cams. I have to think about that...
(And would like suggestions how to do it 'right')
Don't say 'make a dialogue', as the tool is intended for offloading cards
under stress, so i prefer 'no questions asked'.
(idea is, just run the offloader tool, insert a card and everything is done
with the least of interaction. If a card is already offloaded, you'll get a
warning.)
2) Not sure about MetaFuze, but i'm using a bit of BBC code that does the
Avid stuff.
29.97 is not implemeted for DNxHD. (It is for SD codecs.). I know someone is
working on it, but it's too early to comment on it.
It would be nice to have a util that 'does it all', but that would be a huge
util, outdated/buggy and very difficult to set up.
(Codecs change very often, and new ones hit the streets weekly)
If you want something like that, look at FlipFactory or alike. I'm not the
one to compete with those apps.
3) The app. can render to DNxHD Quicktime (or any other codec you like) with
TC and Reelname.
So you can have a Fast Import in Avid.
(It does not do the conversion itself, it just uses Quicktime to do it. So
any codec you have available in QT pro now will work.
The incredibe speed comes from letting you decide how much to use from the
CPU power that is available, thus be noted you aren't able to use your
machine for other jobs while it's running at max speed.)
I hope to have a version online at the end of the day, i'll post an URL if
it's there.

Subject: [Avid-L2] Re: new FAST Canon import tool
Sounds great. Can't wait to try it.
Agree that AMA in 5.0 will do some heavy lifting for certain project
types -- but it's maybe not appropriate for workflows that need to be rock
solid for extended amounts of time.
Three questions:
1. Any thought about integrating some level of QtChange functionality so
that Tape Names find their way into the MXF files? Nice to have it all in
one place.
2. Is there a reason MXF conversion of 29.97 is not supported (except for
DNxHD QT). I've noticed (and complained) that the same limitation exists
with 29.97 in MetaFuze. It would really be nice to have a utility that "did
it all".
3. And if 29.97 will never be possible with this software -- I guess a
two-stage process will be necessary to convert the h.264 to DNxHD QT, and
then use QtChange for reel name insertion. Is that correct? Or has
anything that Avid has announced for 5.0 -- make my statements or
assumptions -- false?
Thanks
