On Mac, if you 'recreate title media,' the titles shift several lines
- even if you don't make any changes. Recreate the title again?
Moves back to its original position. But, it doesn't do this EVERY
time. Just most of the time... Often, if you open a title that was
built on one machine - with the EXACT same font, and the original
system has the same version of software and graphics cards - the title
will have completely different kerning and line spacing. Same
font. And that's to say nothing of a title that was designed in
offline on a PC and brought forward to a Mac for online.
Then, there's the what-you-see-isn't-quite-what-you-get problem. The
background image comes up in the title generator out of position. Not
always, but sometimes, (75% of the time) shifted far to the left-
enough that you have to ignore the background that you're trying to
build titles over - and focus on using the grid for positioning -
Don't get me wrong - way easier to use than Final Cut's title
generator, but it just needs to be consistent and repeatable. Why
is this a pet peeve of mine? We do a boatload of electronic press
kits - and all they are is endless slates. We spend WAY too much time
retyping and re-tweaking slates just because they didn't render (or
come up in the title editor) the same way twice. For most users, who
are doing a lower third or two, maybe a slate at the top, a full
screen graphic here or there... this is merely a petty annoyance. For
us, as we now flat-bid a lot of our work, it literally costs me money.
Marquee is too cumbersome for us to use for building slates - though
I've often considered 'forcing' the staff to move over to Marquee.
