[Avid-L2] OT - Pink's Hot Dogs

LOS ANGELES -- An armed man who tried to take money from the safe at Pink's Hot Dogs early Monday had to settle for just $20.

The robbery at the famed hot dog stand in the 700 block of North La Brea Avenue happened about 3 a.m., according to detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's Wilshire Division.

Two employees had just closed the stand and were leaving via the rear door when they saw a man crouched behind a chair in the patio area.

He stood up and approached the employees, armed with a handgun.

The suspect demanded they take him to the safe, according to police, but when they got there, the workers told him they didn't know the combination.

At that point, he demanded money from them, and one handed him a $20 bill from a tip jar on the counter.

The suspect told the two not to move or he would shoot them, and then he took off.

The man was described as black, about 30 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 170 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket, black jeans and a gray ski cap with a handkerchief over his face.

Anyone with information about his identity or whereabouts was asked to call detectives at (213) 473-0154.
