FCP is defintily doing 'something', as Firewire output DOES support CC.
And besides MacCaption, there is also my (relative dirt cheap) Subbits that
can open / edit / create / convert CC files...

FCP with the Kona card allows you to take a CC text file, and add it to your
program. If you want to edit it, you need a third party program like
MacCaption. It is actually the Kona card that is adding the or capturing the
CC.
