I completely agree. Watch virtually any network drama, four-camera or single-camera show or any cable drama. Production values are feature level and tech work such as cinematography, sound, sets, etc. are all remarkably high. Watch an episode of "Law & Order. Technically speaking, it's every bit as good as any mid 90's Harrison Ford running-around-saving-his-family movie. Better, usually.

Even shows like "The Amazing Race" or "Survivor" are often gorgeous to look at. Comedy variations such as "The Office" and "Modern Family" are also technically superior. Have you seen an episode of "Fantasy Island" recently? It's embarrassing.

My genuine complaint has to do with the compression used in cable. Blocking in blacks and dark graded tones is very annoying. So to that extent, we have some degradation in quality. Although, even that is not 100% clear cut and can be argued.
