Re: [Avid-L2] New MC 4.0.2 system slow

David

First off -----------------------------
Start with fresh 4.x user settings.

Then check to see if your video display settings are correct. If they
are wrong, things will be dog-slow.
To select the OpenGL mode:
1. In the Project window, click the Settings tab.
2. Double-click Video Display.
3. In the OpenGL Hardware section, select your Quadro 3800
4.Click OK.

If you are seeing any other video issues, you can reinstall the nVidia
drivers found in the Avid Utilities folder. Version 19038 is current.
You'll need to restart and recheck the Open GL setting after installing
these.

But back to AMA --------------------------
Avid often suggests deleting the AMA.log files found on the MC's Temp
folder. You see this location when you log on as an avid user.
Sometimes this works. I would trash the MC state at the same time.

AFAIK, AMA alone should not cause this big a lag. Frankly I would try
another firewire or ESATA drive. if you notice that material plays fine
from another local media drives or your internal drive, you need to
consolidate the AMA files to there ASAP. No need to transcode them to
DNX media, unless you plan on outputting this out through a Nitris or
Adrenaline.

Mixing other non-native media in a P2 timeline can slow things down
though. If that's the case, change the "High-Quality Scaling for
Real-Time Decode settings" or consider transcoding all your
media/renders to one master format.

(Adding a MOJO will not help in any way, except to make Promax happy.)

I am discovering that If there are far more than a dozen AMA directories
online at the same time, you will likely start to see errors. Unmount
any of these that are not needed, using the "unmount) menu command.

In general -------------------------
When things start to bog down, put the quality button in draft, turn the
caps lock off, make sure you don't have crazy shit like scrolling
timelines or waveforms turned on, and increase the size of the
playbuffer. Then hit Play and keep your head down.

Good luck
