Re: [Avid-L2] Fw: Sony Monitor Auto Termination?

Not sure about nowadays, but it used to be a physical switch.
(and thus not working after a couple of years, but luckily most of the time
in the 'open' position, so a normal terminator takes care of it)

Just curious what the actual mechanism is for Sony monitors with composite
input loop thru that auto terminates. I know if nothing is connected to the
loop thru output the input will be terminated to 75 ohms. Once you connect a
cable to the loop thru output the termination is lifted. Is the lift of the
termination a active circuit or a physical feature of the loop thru output
chassis mount bnc connector. I haven't pulled one apart in a long time so I
don't remember how this might work. Having just discovered why a machine
room composite monitor was washed out do to an unterminated loop thru cable
that appears at the video patch bay but is not normalized to 75 ohms. Of
course the AEs fix has been to crank down the brightness and contrast on the
monitor and not report that there is a problem. Where's the baseball bat
when
you need it?
