[Avid-L2] Anybody tried to hook an XDCAM PDW-1500 to a MacBook Pro?

I'm trying to figure out how to get a Sony PDW1500 XDCAM into a Mac
Book Pro (laptop).

I bought a 400 -> 800 Firewire cable, so I have the two connected.

If I look at my Mac's hardware configuration, I can see that the Mac
see a PDW1500 at the other end of the Firewire cable.

The deck doesn't show up on my desktop and I don't see it in AMA.

Do I need drivers? Any help would be appreciated. I've tried looking
at the "Help" docs... There's no distinguishing between Mac and PC in
those, so there's a certain lack of clarity about what's supposed to
happen.

I have a document from Sony, I think, about FAM (file access mode)
operations, but those are all Windows based instructions.

TIA!
