Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Symphony upgrade Q

Well, we should point out that z400 has a single quadcore CPU, and the
800 has two. (For those who are wondering, z800 has an extra Quad CPU,
faster cache, better graphics, more RAM, PCI-e slots, chrome and
pinstripes).

Gonna be major differences there. And with 32 bit vs 64. (I am using
32bit XPPRO and MC NDX 4.05).

But I'm not sure what to make of the software vs hardware results you
are seeing.

When the DX is attached, it's going to reserve some bandwidth for that,
then negotiate rendering/compression task among the DNxcel/GPU/CPUs.
Theoretically, the CPUs should have less load on them. The GPU about
the same. And a z800 should be able to process more complex sequences
on the fly. All this would vary with the material being played.

Michel would be a good one to comment on this.

What is obvious is that the z400 looks like a solid, inexpensive option
to run the MC NDX, (sorry Ken, it's not officially supported for the
Symphony NDX). The z800 is a pricey muthah but may be exactly what is
required for Symphony work, crap like AVCHD and some Avid features that
have yet to be released.

Still anxious to see the z600 qualified, but for the $$, the z400 can
take a pounding. And seeing the performance boost from Adrenaline/8200
platform puts a smile on your face.
