[Avid-L2] MacPro 2nd ethernet connection for network loop thru?

If I've got a MacPro Avid editing computer hooked to the ethernet network at work could I connect my macbookpro over ethernet to the 2nd ethernet connection of the macpro and get access to the network?  Is there a special setting in preferences to enable this if it's possible.  I'm not at the system right now so I wanted to check the possibility out before opting for a switch to get more ethernet connections in the bay.
