[Avid-L2] Avid/FCP Partitioning

Just to be clear... there has been advice proffered here that it's wise to put FCP on one partition of your laptop and Avid on another. And I accept the collected judgment of the L. But why?

Why is it a good idea to do this? What could go wrong should they be installed on the same partition? What dire consequences are we trying to avoid by taking this approach?
